Step-by-step guides

Learn how to use every feature

  1. 1

    Prepare your word list

You need a comma-separated list of words before step 2. Two ways to get it:

Have a screenshot? Open a free AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini), share the image and ask: “List all English words and phrases, comma separated.” Copy the result.

Know the words already? Write them out comma-separated. Example: size up, hold on, run out
  2. 2

    Generate flashcards with AI

Copy the prompt below. Open a new AI chat and paste it. Fill in the two fields at the bottom: Translation language (e.g. Ukrainian, Spanish — or "none" to skip) and Words — your comma-separated list from step 1. The AI returns cards in word&definition format — ready to paste into Budling.

    Copy this prompt:

I want you to act as an English teacher helping me create study flashcards. I'll give you a list of English words or phrases. For each one, respond in this exact format:

word/phrase&short definition. "Example sentence with ___ replacing the word/phrase." native_translation

    Rules:
    * No spaces around &
    * Replace the target word/phrase with ___ in the example sentence
    * Keep definitions short (1 sentence)
    * Keep examples natural and realistic
    * native_translation = translate only the word/phrase itself into the language specified below — no brackets or parentheses
    * If the language is "none", omit the translation entirely
    * Output each card on a new line
    * No numbering, no bullet points, no extra text
    * Preserve the original word/phrase exactly as provided

    Example output:
negotiate&To discuss terms and reach an agreement. "The two parties sat down to ___." домовлятися
gullible&Too willing to believe what others say. "He was ___ enough to trust the fake email." довірливий

    ---
Translation language: [your language here, e.g. Ukrainian / Spanish / French — or "none" to skip]

    Words:
    [paste your comma-separated words here]

  2. 2

    Set your timezone (important!)

The bot defaults to UTC. If you don't set your timezone, notifications will arrive at the wrong local time and quiet hours won't work. Send /timezone Europe/Kyiv (replace with your city) to @budling_bot right after connecting. Full list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones
  3. 3

Configure review time and quiet hours

  5. 5

    Daily Review

At your chosen review time, the bot sends up to 20 cards due for spaced repetition. Tap ✅ Know it or ❌ Don't know for each card. Your progress syncs back to Budling. At session end, you can review more cards if any remain.
